Lyric writing I (1022 bytes) Techniques of Lyric Writing I

For the lyricist, this course focuses on creating well crafted commercially viable lyrics.  Weekly writing assignments will reinforce concepts learned in class.  This class is taught on site at our Nashville, TN location.  Our online versions of these classes are anticipated to launch in 2003!

    Six 90 minute sessions will focus on:

  • Mastering Viewpoint/time frame/setting

  • Understanding lyrical contrast

  • Conquering rhythm and rhyme

  • Creating conversational and focused lyrics

  • Building a "word palette"

For the lyricist, this course focuses on advanced lyric writing techniques and craft. Weekly writing assignments will reinforce concepts learned in class.  This class is taught on site at our Nashville, TN location.  Our online versions of these classes are anticipated to launch in 2003!

    Six 90 minute sessions will focus on:

  • Understanding parallel form frame/setting

  • Incorporating advanced rhyme techniques

  • Using figurative language

  • Creating the "fireworks factor"

  • Writing lyrics which are easily set to music

Songwriter's Group (1966 bytes)   The Writer's Group

For the advanced songwriting student, this six week songwriting course will focus on current trends in country music as well as student work's in progress.

Each week, one song from the country top 40 will be examined in terms of its musical and lyrical songwriting craft. Students are encouraged to bring songs in progress to each class meeting for feedback and analysis.

Course prerequisites: Students must have previously taken the Composer's Workshop (see above) or submit an audition tape to be accepted. Class size limited to six.

Two sections will be offered this spring.  Students may sign up for either six week section.
